It was most likely a good luck piece, and (considering how it failed her) it does not have any supernatural abilities for aiding escapes. He tells her he may tell her riffraff boyfriend where he can find her if she can't wiggle out of the ropes, and then he abandons Alba to fend for herself. But there's still an unexpected twist to the story.
